A Warm Welcome to Winter
Winter is officially here, making it the perfect opportunity to bring warmth into your home with some simple interior updates for the cooler months ahead. We’ll show you how to use layering, texture, colour and lighting to create a Winter wonderland in your home – it’ll be so cosy you won’t want to leave! And with the right entertaining essentials, you won’t need to. Enjoy movie nights, culinary delights and snuggling up in bed by transforming your abode. Ready to be inspired? Let’s get started.
Lessons in layering
Layers are an easy and versatile way to create a Winter retreat at home. Add chunky knitted throws, faux fur blankets and luxe velvet cushions to sofas, armchairs and beds. To ensure you layer textures successfully, start with the lowest pile and build on from that. Also make sure you mix different types of piles together for a complementary look. For example, pair a leather sofa with a knitted throw and boucle cushions for ultimate comfort (not to mention a stylish statement). When it comes to bedding, create a toasty cocoon by layering quilts, blankets and throws on top of buttery soft flannelette sheets. Layering is the best way to beat the cold and as temperatures change overnight you can adjust your layers as needed. An electric blanket is also another option for heating up your bed quickly – turn it on five minutes before bed and then switch off once you hop into bed.

Rug rules
A rug can effortlessly transform any space with texture and colour. However not only does a rug look pretty, it also has many practical benefits (especially in the cooler season). Lay down plush area rugs on hardwood or tile floors to add much needed warmth underfoot. We love soft wool rugs for their insulating properties and durability – perfect for high traffic areas such as the lounge room or hallway. Also consider placing rugs where you need extra cosiness like beneath the dining table and next to your bed.

Colour play
As the days get shorter and the nights get colder, it’s time to say goodbye to whites and bright hues. Rather embrace rich and warming hues like terracotta, olive green and dusty pinks in accessories like throws, cushions, rugs and curtains. This makes it easy to update your home’s colour palette season to season, without it being too expensive. Artwork can also be a beautiful way to inject warming colours into your interior – either opt for a gallery style wall with different sized frames placed at varying heights or invest in a large statement piece that you’ve fallen in love with.

Entertainer’s delight
As the weather gets cooler, now is the time to invite guests around rather than having to rug up and venture out when the temperature drops. It’s the perfect excuse to upgrade some of those entertaining essentials like your coffee machine. Transform your morning brew into a coffee on par with a barista creation by investing in an automatic machine that remembers your order and grinds beans to perfection. Nothing is better on a chilly day than a warm cuppa. Another kitchen essential for the Winter months is a slow cooker – whip up a hearty meal packed with flavour while you’re at work, ready for when your guests arrive in the evening. Or for a casual get together and easy Friday night dinner, we can’t go past a pizza oven for preparing authentic woodfired style pizza in minutes – what’s not to love?
