Warm welcome

Achieve a natural, earthy feel for your home with three easy design tips.

We all want to feel energised, relaxed and restored when we’re at home. Your home is your haven, so having a warm and inviting space that improves your state of being makes good sense.

To help you create an environment that’s nurturing, inspires your creativity and makes you feel more connected, we’re tapping into three simple design ideas that unite the best of nature. Discover how to embrace natural materials, earthy tones and bring the outdoors in.

Be natural

Rich textures and textiles help to soften and warm spaces, and natural fibres and materials are the best choices for creating sensory style. As well as being more sustainable, natural materials are better for durability and longevity, so you can enjoy your pieces for longer. Wool, linen, cotton, bamboo, silk, stone, clay and wood all have a lovely tactile feel that bring us joy and a little closer to nature.

Mixing and matching these materials in different forms adds a lovely softness and warmth to your interiors. Try adding a woollen rug or hall runner in an earthy tone to create a warm, intimate space. Consider sheer linen-blend window treatments to diffuse the light and warm your space. Display some handmade stoneware accessories on your shelves, pop some photos into timber art frames, and give your plants a stylish new home in terracotta pots.

Tone up

Colour really sets the tone for your space, creating that special mood you’re wanting to achieve. For a warm, relaxing and inviting environment, choose earthy tones inspired by nature. Think burnt orange, spun gold, nutmeg, ochre and brass.

One of the best design tips is to pair a warm hue with a neutral colour like soft beige, crème brulee, dove grey or ivory to create a nice balance. Use cooler colours on your walls and ceiling, and then add your warmer colours through your furniture, lighting and accessories.

Ever green

Green is definitely still having its moment, so why not lean into this trend with its leafy tones of sage, pistachio, forest or olive. Its superb as an accent colour, brought to life in your cushions and throws, to your accessories such as vases and decorative objects.

You can also bring more greenery into your home with indoor plants and fresh stems. And with spring right around the corner, now’s a great time to consider starting that vertical garden or kitchen garden you’ve been dreaming about. Lemons, tomatoes, silverbeet and herbs like parsley, basil, mint and coriander are all perfect for planting come September.
