Get the look: Natural Beauty

Styling and renovation extraordinaire Kara Demmrich is one half of dynamic, down-to-earth duo and The Block favourites, Kyal & Kara. With 28 renovations and design projects under their belt, this team knows a thing or two about making homes more beautiful. Kara joins us as our style ambassador and guest blogger.

With winter well and truly here and hibernation at an all-time high for the cooler months, I see it as the perfect time to give your home’s interior a refresh.

Kyal and I are all for investing in quality furniture that will withstand the test of time, but when it comes to styling your home, items such as cushions, art and statement pieces can be mixed in to create a whole new look as the seasons change. And change is as good as a holiday, right?

One of my favourite trending styles this winter is natural materials. There’s something about bringing natural elements in to your home that makes you feel warmer, calmer and more comfortable. And by scaling back on bright colours and patterns, you can really help to craft a tranquil retreat in your home.

For the bedroom this could mean a rattan bedhead, fresh linen European pillowcases and a woollen throw. For the living room, consider wicker furniture, natural leather and timbers. We also love natural jute wall hangings and table runners.

Here are some of my top picks that help to achieve a look that’s richly layered in natural textures.

Selma olive cushion

The colour of nature, green creates a sense of peace. We love this soft and stylish olive-hued cushion in faux fur for extra warmth on cool evenings. $42 Domayne.
